Tommy’s Pantry provides comprehensive food and wellness assistance to families in lower Montgomery County, Maryland. With support from donors, partners, and volunteers, we distribute essential resources once per month through multiple programs.
Shelf-Stable Food Boxes
Monthly distribution of essential pantry staples including peanut butter, canned goods, cooking oil, and more.
Wellness Boxes
Hygiene items and cleaning products including soap, deodorant, toilet paper, laundry detergent, and period products.
Fresh Produce Boxes
Monthly fresh fruit and vegetable distributions providing nutritious options for healthier meals.
Annual Impact: Tommy’s Pantry is currently on track to serve 13,032 households this year through monthly distributions and participation in the Manna Smart Sacks program.

Tommy’s Pantry conducts distributions once per month, with our distribution site operating 2 times monthly to serve 360+ households. Each month we distribute 360 shelf-stable food boxes, 360 wellness boxes (hygiene and cleaning products), and 360 fresh produce boxes.
Tommy’s Pantry provides three types of boxes: (1) Shelf-stable food boxes containing items like peanut butter, canned soup, cooking oil, and pantry staples; (2) Wellness boxes with hygiene items (soap, deodorant, period products) and cleaning products (laundry detergent, toilet paper); (3) Fresh produce boxes with fruits and vegetables for nutritious meals.
You can donate to Tommy’s Pantry in several ways: one-time donations starting at $10 (provides 8 full-size deodorants), monthly recurring donations starting at $10/month (supports a year’s supply of maxi pads for 4 women), or volunteering at our distributions. The Manna Smart Sacks program is a school-based initiative that Tommy’s Pantry participates in to extend our reach to children facing food insecurity. How to Support Tommy’s Pantry

Donate
One-Time Donations:
- $10: Provide 8 full-size deodorants
- $25: Supply 14 bottles of cooking oil
- $50: Distribute 40 bars of soap
- $100: Buy 60 containers of peanut butter or 80 small bottles of laundry detergent
Monthly Donations:
- $10/month: Year’s supply of maxi pads for 4 women
- $25/month: 396 cans of soup
- $35/month: Shelf-stable milk for 25 households for 1 year
- $45/month: 1,728 rolls of toilet paper

Volunteer Details
Tommy’s Pantry is 100% volunteer-run. With approximately 120 total monthly volunteers, we’re able to serve 360+ households each month through our distributions. Join our team of dedicated volunteers making a real difference in Montgomery County, MD.

Volunteer Opportunities
We currently have 5 types of volunteer opportunities available:
📦 Pack
Help pack food boxes, wellness boxes, and produce boxes for distribution. Perfect for individuals or groups.
🤝 Distribute
Assist families during monthly distributions by handing out boxes and providing friendly service.
🚗 Traffic
Help manage traffic flow during distributions to ensure safe, efficient service for all families.
📋 Stock
Organize and stock our inventory of food, wellness items, and supplies to prepare for distributions.
👥 Supervise
Lead volunteer teams and coordinate activities during packing and distribution events.
Important Volunteer Information
Age Requirement
At this time, children ages 11 and up may volunteer at our packing sessions and 13 and up for distributions. Exceptions apply to group bookings where additional adult supervision is provided. Full boxes are too heavy for younger children to move safely.
Parking Instructions
For Distribution Events: Please park on the FRONT side of the church building (along Sligo Ave). Traffic behind the church along Silver Spring Ave builds up as early as 5:00 am.
For Packing Events: You are welcome to park along Silver Spring Ave (behind the church) and across the street in the East Silver Spring Elementary School parking lot (when school is not in session).
Physical Requirements
Please note our full boxes and bags weigh up to 30 lbs. Let us know if you have any physical limitations and we’ll find the right volunteer role for you.

Welcome to the Tommy’s Pantry Resource Center. Tommy’s Pantry is 100% volunteer run so we are always looking for people to help. The Resource Center has been set up as a way for people in our community to volunteer their talents and professional skills.
